Kamala Harris – David O’Rear’s East Asia Politics & Economics Blog

The most important thing about Kamala Harris, head and shoulders above all else, is that she will defend the Constitution against all enemies, domestic and foreign. In other words, she is not Donald Trump.

Kamala Harris, at 60 years of age, has more experience than the GOP ticket.

  • US Vice President, four years.
  • US Senator, four years.
  • California State Attorney General, six years.
  • San Francisco District Attorney, seven years.

Ms Harris has a strong ethical record, a long history of taking a tough approach to gun crime, and a proven ability to come from behind in a tight election. She has actively supported LGBTQ+ rights and staunchly defended the environment. Under AG Harris, California became the first state to require all police officers to wear body cameras.

Senator Harris has worked to expose and oppose voter suppression activities and in bipartisan support (with Rand Paul) on election security. Candidate Harris has refused single-candidate Super PAC financing as well as funding from corporate PACs and lobbyists.

On economic issues, she is pretty much the opposite of Project 2025 rhetoric.

Another view:

Dan Drezner, Drezner’s World podcase (via Brad De Long, UC Berkeley Economics Professor):

  1. Even a vegetative Joe Biden would have been the superior presidential option to Donald Trump;
  2. If Trump wins, the foreign policy implications would be, how to put it, not great;
  3. Joe Biden’s debate performance opened him up to legitimate questions about his ability to campaign and to govern for four more years;
  4. The race tipped in Trump’s direction after the debate. It didn’t shift dramatically — the polls moved but not by that much. But Biden’s fundraising dried up and Democratic Party power brokers were not assuaged by either Biden or his campaign after his God-awful debate performance.

American citizens, for the sake of your democracy, V O T E !
