Episode 9 (S2) of the Smith Family Manga is now available – the Prime Minister embarrasses himself – William Mitchell – Modern Monetary Theory

Today (December 13, 2024), MMTed releases Episode 9 in the Second Season of our Manga series – The Smith Family and their Adventures with Money. Have a bit of fun with it while learning Modern Monetary Theory (MMT) and circulate it to those who you think will benefit.

The Smith Family is a middle-class family living in a city somewhere in the world. The second-generation parents are university educated and have professional occupations. Their two kids attend the local public school.

In Episode 9, with the recession deepening and a sense of hopelessness building among the long-term unemployed, the data shows that the fiscal deficit and the public debt is rising exactly the opposite to the predictions made by the media star Professor Raul Noitawl, which prompted the government to impose such harsh austerity.

The government is now in political trouble and announces that it has to ‘save’ more money by abandoning its climate change response.

The Government leader is interrogated by the new TV anchor, Mary Winter, who was sacked by Truth TV for daring to question the views of Professor Noitawl.

The Prime Minister struggles to answer the questions and fobs Mary off when she outlines why the government cannot run out of money.

But there is an election in the air and it is clear that the government is in trouble.

Elizabeth Smith is incensed by the decision to abandon the climate change policies and joins the kids at the Protest March, saying that without the solidarity of all generations things won’t change.

Exchange student Minako Ode, who is living with the Smith Family while she is studying at the local school, soon finds out that Daniel Jones, who she thought was in love with her, was just after one thing.

A showdown occurs and Daniel shows his true colours and they are not very attractive to say the least.

The experience has an indelible impact on Minako, who is gaining confidence and determination by the day.

We will see how that pans out in later episodes.

If you have any feedback we will appreciate it, other than ‘this sucks’.
